Discover the Monster at Karl Malone Chevrolet!
In 1990, Chevrolet pulled the cover back on what they called the "Corvette from hell," the Corvette ZR1. Fast forward nearly 35 years, and you'll notice that the name still carries some weight, shifting from competing with other American muscle cars to competing with supercars. The 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1 shoulders the weight that the name carries with more than 1,000 horsepower from a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged engine! Here at Karl Malone Chevrolet, we are ecstatic about the 2025 Corvette ZR1, and we'd like to take this opportunity to share that excitement with you. Read on to learn more!
The Most Powerful Corvette Engine Ever
The engine under the hood of the Corvette ZR1 uses the LT6 flat-plane crank 5.5L V8 engine from the Corvette Z06 as its foundation. However, it features so many modifications that it has its own designation: LT7. The LT7 engine features a valve train that is optimized for forced air induction, with a lift and timing profile meticulously crafted to accommodate higher exhaust temperatures, enhancing the performance of the exhaust valves. Furthermore, the intake system is completely redesigned for the LT7, tuned specifically for the two turbochargers. Additionally, the combustion chambers, exhaust, and intake ports have been machined to match the requirements of the LT7 engine precisely. Mounted to the LT7 engine are two 76mm mono-scroll turbochargers integrated into the exhaust manifold, reducing the distance from the exhaust valve to the turbo for quicker response times. To further enhance response times, the turbochargers feature electronically actuated wastegates. Finally, the engine's anti-lag system uses unique calibration techniques specifically designed for the ZR1 to react and adapt to driver input, ensuring a customized, exhilarating driving experience. All told, these upgrades give the Corvette ZR1 track-ready output numbers of 1,064 horsepower and 843 lb-ft of torque! Although the ZR1's 0-60 and quarter-mile times are still under wraps, it has been said that it's top speed exceeds 215 MPH!
How Does the Corvette ZR1 Design Help its performance?
In addition to fine-tuning the ZR1's engine, its design stands out from the traditional Corvette with exclusive features in place to enhance performance even further. The ZR1's design team started by toning down the Corvette's bodywork to minimize drag and improve aerodynamics. Meanwhile, the sides feature carbon fiber air ducts to cool the rear brakes. Meanwhile, a carbon fiber roof is in place to reduce the car's overall mass and lower its center of gravity in both the coupe and convertible models. As standard equipment, the ZR1 comes standard with stagger fit wheels – 20-inch front, 21-inch rear – wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S performance tires. Meanwhile, the hood features a flow-through hood, in which air enters the front grille, flows through the intercooler, and leaves the hood. This serves to cool the charged air temperature and enhance the car's front downforce. The most significant design feature is the integration of the split rear window. A design element that dates back to the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray, the modernized version of the split window has two purposes. First, of course, is purely for aesthetic purposes by honoring the Corvette's rich history. Second, the carbon fiber "spine" design between the two rear windows also serves a functional purpose, increasing engine heat extraction and working together with other cooling elements for the ZR1.
Introducing the ZTK Performance Package
The 2025 Corvette ZR1 is eligible for the all-new ZTK Performance Package. To further reduce the vehicle's weight, carbon fiber wheels are optional as part of the ZTK Performance Package. The ZTK Performance Package also adds Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, further enhancing high-speed traction. To increase rear downforce, the ZTK Package also adds a large carbon fiber wing to the rear. Additionally, a tall carbon fiber Gurney lip in front of the flow-through hood. The ZTK Package also adds front dive plates for better frontal aerodynamics and front downforce. While all ZR1 models come with adaptive damping suspension, the ZTK Performance Package adds stiffer springs to the suspension for better ride control and handling.
